with fun in the sun in maryland this weekend, but they will be dealing with major heat along with humidity. it is already quite warm outside. will we see more dangerous temperatures today? good morning gwen. it's going to be another day melanie where the challenge will be to try to stay cool. let's take a look at what we did temperature wise yesterday. we broke record at all three airports. 101 at national and airport, 99 at dulles. these records setback from 23 years ago in 1987. right now at national airport, 79 degrees. humidity is up at 74%. so it's another day we'll have to deal with that. a very light northerly wind, that will soon change and some neighborhood temperatures ranging into the upper to mid-80s in some areas even. and we're going to continue to see that as the day and the morning does continue to wear on. and we d have a chance of storms this afternoon. we're keeping a close eye on a frontal system headed our way. our high today is 98 degrees. a heat advisory in effect until 8:00 tonight. i'll have more details later. >>> thank you. a lot of people are staying indoors to

for adults and $7 for kids. >>> a big 4th of july event in maryland is the frederick's 4th celebrate. and this event is going on at baker park from noon to 9:00 p.m. it will have music on several different stages and lots of activities and food and fireworks. and do you have to pay for some of the activities but admission is free. >>> in d.c. the national independence day parade starts at 11:45 this morning. the parade takes place on constitution avenue between 7th and 17th street. it features bands, drill teams and floats. and you may even see a celebrity or two. this event, by the way, is also free. >>> and the 30th anniversary of a capitol 4th is going on in down d.c. reba mcintyre and david archuleta and gladys knight will perform. it all takes place on the west lawn of the capitol starting at 8:00 tonight. gates open at 3:00 p.m. and they suggest you get there early. this event is also free. >>> and in addition, we've put together a list of 20 other 4th of july events around the area and you can find an event near you on the list at >>> there are plenty of places to

of the $150 million approved from congress and the matching funds from d.c., maryland and virginia. >>> it is day 83 of the disaster in the gulf now and more oil, hundreds of thousands of gallons, is being allowed to spill into the gulf. crews are putting a new cap on the gusher. it allows the oil to pour into the water and the hope is the new cap will stop the leak completely. we have more from grand isle, lousiana. >> reporter: work underway in the gulf to put a new cap over the spewing oil well. engineers on the surface are maneuvering under water robots to place the dome off the leak nicknamed top hat number 10. the process is expected to take between 4-7 days, during part of the time an estimated 5 million gallons of crude could gush out into the water. >> but there will be a multi day period while we are putting the new containment cap on where there would be some exposure of hydrocarbons into the environment. >> reporter: the new cap will funnel more oil to collection ships on the water surface with a tighter cap under the sea, and with ships above, officials hope it could s
